GCSE Skills

 

  • Develop an understanding of Musical Elements in order to apply them to Composing, Performing and Listening and Appraising. Including use of: Melody, Articulation, Dynamics, Texture, Structure, Harmony, Instrumentation, Rhythm, Tonality, Tempo and Technology
  • Develop skills in performance in order to be able to perform on an instrument or voice and being able to demonstrate, accuracy, technical control and expression
  • Develop the skills to compose music and be able to demonstrate an understanding of how to be creative and create initial ideas, to organise ideas effectively, and how to develop the ideas into complete pieces of music by using the musical elements

 

By the end of year 9, students should be able to:

 

  • Identify and analyse the effects of musical elements when listening to examples and perform with accuracy
  • Be able to apply a range of musical elements to composing devices effectively
  • Be able to apply relevant musical elements to performances effectively
  • Read musical notations, rhythms and symbols with accuracy
  • Compose ideas, develop these ideas and be able to organise them
  • Perform pieces of music with accuracy, displaying increasing levels of complexity
     

By the end of year 8, students should be able to:

  • Be able to apply a range of musical elements to composing ideas
  • Be able to apply relevant musical elements to performances
  • Read musical notations, rhythms and symbols with increasing accuracy
  • Compose ideas and begin to develop and organise these ideas
  • Perform pieces of music with accuracy
     

By the end of year 7, students should be able to:

 

  • Be able to identify and describe most of the musical elements when listening to examples and peer work
  • Be able to apply some musical elements to composing ideas
  • Be able to apply some relevant musical elements to performances
  • Read some basic musical notation, rhythms and symbols
  • Compose simple ideas and organise the ideas into compositions
  • Perform short pieces of music with increasing accuracy
