Curriculum Statement

Throughout years 7-11, all our students will engage and participate in the practice of Drama in order to understand about the history and nature of Drama, as well as develop a wide range of transferable skills that will equip them for life in the future. Students will have a range of practical opportunities which will allow them to develop and sustain roles, devise and explore their own creative ideas and adopt a range of techniques, styles and genres through engaging and interesting lessons/schemes. We believe that drama allows students to discover empathy about the world around them, identify with contemporary issues relevant to today’s society as referenced in scripts, texts, novels and poems. We ensure our students cover a wide range of different dramatic literature/ styles of performance which will allow them to develop their vocabulary, discuss use of language and cover a range of social, historical and political themes. Our curriculum is centred on the development of key performance skills through topics that explore style and genre, historical events and social issues. In addition to developing performance skills, students will learn how to analyse and evaluate both their own work and the work of others, as well as how design and technical aspects can enhance and support drama and theatre.
