Geography

Curriculum Statement

The Key Stage 3 Geography curriculum at Friern Barnet School is synonymous with the whole school ethos of ‘Enjoy and Excel’. Our curriculum is academically ambitious to ensure pupils are equipped with knowledge about current issues facing the world around us, whilst also ensuring students are taught the geographical skills they need to succeed at GCSE level and into adulthood.

Our intent at KS3 is to stimulate an interest in and a sense of wonder about places, as well as to help to make sense of a complex, fragile, endangered and ever-changing world.
The physical geography components explain how landscapes are formed, as well as how people and their environment interact. The human geography component investigates how a diverse range of economies, societies and environments are interconnected. We build on pupils’ own experiences to investigate places at all scales, from the personal to the global.
