Welcome to the Art department. We aim to provide a safe and stimulating environment which encourages creativity, visual understanding and enjoyment of the Arts. We hope to promote a high level of skills in making artworks using a range of techniques and materials; and the ability to experiment, take risks and make mistakes with confidence. We are committed to encouraging the understanding of a range of approaches to Art, both contemporary and historical, and how different cultures express themselves visually. We also want our students to use their Artwork as a means of communicating their thoughts and feelings, and responding to their visual environment.
All students study visual Arts at KS3, and at KS4 they can select from a range of options if they wish to study the subject further.
There are three Art classrooms, one of which is used for GCSE Art Textiles. We also have an “I-lab” with Apple macs where students can experiment with digital manipulation of their images.
